„Rozbite lustro” Ewy Zwarycz to cykl prac, w których artystka rozlicza się ze swoją dotychczasową twórczością, a także podejmuje wątek życiowego doświadczenia, rozumianego zarówno jako bagaż, jak i tworzywo.

​

Tworzywo, budulec, materia jako nośnik znaczeń i przedmiot przemian stają się w ujęciu Zwarycz metaforą nieskończonego labiryntu, w którym gubi się, odnaj duje i buduje indywidualna tożsamość. Labiryntu pełnego korytarzy, które – gdy spojrzeć z pewnej perspektywy – układają się we wzór sieci, woalki lub kolczugi, a więc czegoś, co z jednej strony chroni, z drugiej zaś – może stać się narzędziem autoopresji. Nie powinno więc dziwić, że budulcem sieci-pancerza, powielanym niemal w nieskończoność, jest szpilka, która kłuje, rani i w swej masie tworzy ogromny ciężar.

Autoportret i motyw domu to także figury przemian. Fragmenty starych, nielubianych obrazów układają się w widmowy wizerunek, próbujący uchwycić to, co było, jest i być może będzie. Bryły przywołujące kształt rodzinnego domu artystki, powstałe – ponownie – ze sprasowanych starych i niechcianych płócien, ale także z popiołu, ostatniego stadium zapisanych na papierze wspomnień i

ważnych niegdyś przedmiotów, mimo niewielkich rozmiarów stają się ciężki jak pomniki: rozczarowania, gniewu i nostalgii, wreszcie akceptacji. 

 

„Rozbite lustro” to kalejdoskop powidoków, mgnień i niemożliwych całości. Podjętych i niepodjętych wyzwań, pozornie drobnych zranień i żmudnych uświadomień. To także zabieg alchemiczny, w którym wciąż i od nowa wykuwa się z materii codzienności coraz to bardziej szlachetne stany skupienia.

“Broken Mirror” by Ewa Zwarycz is a series of works in which the artist reckons with her artistic practice to date, while also exploring the theme of lived experience, understood both as a burden and as material.

​

Material, building matter, substance — as a carrier of meaning and an object of transformation — becomes, in Zwarycz’s work, a metaphor for an endless labyrinth in which individual identity is lost, found, and constructed. It is a labyrinth filled with corridors which, when viewed from a certain perspective, form the pattern of a web, a veil, or a coat of mail — something that, on the one hand, offers protection, yet on the other, may become a tool of self-oppression. It is therefore no coincidence that the building block of this web-armour, reproduced almost endlessly, is the pin: something that pricks and wounds, and which, accumulated in such vast numbers, becomes an enormous weight.

 

The self-portrait and the motif of the house are likewise figures of transformation. Fragments of old, disliked paintings come together to form a spectral image, attempting to capture what was, what is, and what may yet be. Forms evoking the shape of the artist’s family home, created once again from compressed old and unwanted canvases, but also from ash — the final stage of memories and once-important objects recorded on paper — become, despite their small scale, heavy as monuments: to disappointment, anger, and nostalgia, and finally to acceptance.

“Broken Mirror” is a kaleidoscope of afterimages, fleeting glimpses, and impossible wholes. It is made of challenges undertaken and left unattempted, seemingly minor wounds, and the arduous process of coming to awareness. It is also an alchemical process, in which the matter of everyday life is forged, again and again, into ever more refined states of being.
